Pino sulla Sponda del lago Maggiore is a very little town near Varese in the north of Italy.
Until 2014 it had a record, it was the italian town with the longest name, 30 characters.
When autonomy was abolished, Pino was aggregated to the town of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca.
The little town is located on a promontory called “Sasso di Pino” this advantaged position gives to the village a picturesque views to the Swiss side of the Lago Maggiore and also on the piedemontese side.
Pino grows vertically.
We can start form Zenna (193m), on the lakeshore where, there is the Swiss border
The main town is in the centre (289m) where there is the curch, the city hall building and it is the most populated area.
This part is no very flat baut there are ups and downs, many street are narrow and shady.
The gathering of the city is the central square “Piazza della Vittoria” where senior citizens meet to chat.
In the town there are several historical evidence such as the medieval tower, some historical villas etc
The area named “Monti di Pino” is the higher part of the village and it arrives until 1375m of height.
The church is dedicated to San Qui rico and it is totally frescoed inside.
It is higher position than the vilage so, form the churchyard you can have a wonderful views on the southern side of the Lake
Pino is a village in a panoramic place and it is easly accesible forom Milan.
Being a border area, Pino is scope from italian that work as botder, form switzerland, germans and lately by finns as a holiday resort.
In the woods that surround the town, if you are lucky, you can even see wild boar and deer.
In autumn you can collect chestnuts.
In the undergrowth, it is possible to find several varieties of edible mushrooms .
The sports activities are those related to the lake, starting from wind surfing, canoeing and sailing.
The hilly and forested area also allows trekkers to espolare the area.
